Since the majority of Americans do not eat the proper nutrients needed to maintain a healthy and happy life, many turn to daily supplements for the much needed vitamins and minerals which are lacking from our intake of fruits and vegetables.
So which way do we turn......pills/capsules or liquids? To help make our decision we need to understand the absorption rate of the various forms of supplements.
PILLS/CAPSULES:
For some, swallowing a pill or capsule is, or has become, difficult. Because of this do you then fore go the supplements your body needs? And if you are taking a pill or capsule form of vitamins and minerals, how does your body absorb these pills and are you really getting the full benefit your body needs?
Research has shown that our bodies absorb only 10-20% of the vital nutrients needed in a pill or capsule form supplement. As we age, this absorption rate decreases due to less stomach acid, which is needed to breakdown and absorb these supplements you are taking. Certain health conditions such as ulcers, acid reflux, etc further inhibit the stomach acid and thus, the absorption of these supplemental vitamins and minerals. You must also take into account that most pills/capsules are "coated" to make swallowing easier and to "mask" the taste.
So, if there is only a 10-20% absorption rate in the pill/capsule form of vitamins, and the time for the stomach to breakdown and ingest the supplement you have taken, where does the rest of the supplement go that is not absorbed? You got it right, down the toilet as it is flushed out of your system! So how many pills/capsules do you REALLY need to take at a 10-20% absorption rate to get the PROPER nutrients your body is lacking? Think about that!!
LIQUIDS
To matter what your age, liquids are consumed by everyone. According to research, liquids are absorbed by the body at a rate of 95-98%, which far exceeds the 10-20% absorption rate of pills/capsules. Also, liquids absorb quicker into the blood stream because the "breakdown" from pill/capsule to liquid is not needed. Why do people "jump start" their morning with a strong cup of coffee (a liquid)? Has Folger's come out with a "coffee pill" for those on the go? No!!! Think about it, if you get up late, don't have time to make your coffee what do you do......you stop at the nearest convenience store on your way to work, where pots of the good smelling "liquid" is waiting for you, calling your name!!!
Although we are talking about vitamins and supplements in this article, also think about any meds you might take or have taken in the past....why is it that the "liquid" form is always more expense than your traditional pill/capsule? Could it be because you do not need as much...it absorbs quicker into the body, works better and more efficiently?
See chart put out my the Physician Desk Reference:
*****************************
Why then would someone spend money on the pill/capsule form of vitamins and minerals when you are only getting less than 1/2 of the nutrients they allege to provide? Why throw your money down the commode, which is where 80% of more of those nutrients are going? Is the term, "take one a day for all your nutritional needs" just a "feel good" slogan from the manufacturer of pills and capsules? And how many pills would you actually have to take, and how much would you actually spend, to make up even 70% of the nutritional value lost due to the absorption rate?
Just "food for thought"...................

Minnesota Twins and Mona Vie
The Twins Are All Juicing
Posted Mar 1st 2007 8:45PM by Tom Fornelli
Filed under: Minnesota, Twins, AL Central
No matter where we turn our attention in baseball, it seems as though we always come back to that one topic. Steroids. Whether it's Barry Bonds and his magic growing head, or Gary Matthews and how he spends his time surfing the internet, it's always about the damn steroids.
The Minnesota Twins have heard about steroids so much, that they figure they might as well go public with their own performance enhancing juice, the same juice responsible for their late season surge to an AL Central title."We started drinking carrot juice around the time we started winning last year," said Twins catcher Joe Mauer. "Some of our guys think that's the reason we won. We'd have about 20 guys drinking carrot juice after batting practice. Except for [Justin] Morneau and [Nick] Punto -- they drank slurpees."
"I think the carrot juice might have done it for us," said shortstop Jason Bartlett. "I started drinking it in the offseason, but then I had to clean it myself, so I stopped after about a week. We need someone to make it this year. You can't mess with success."
It doesn't look as if anyone on the roster is willing to make the carrot juice, but luckily for the team, Joe Mauer has found a replacement."Someone gave me this stuff," Mauer said, pulling what looked like a wine bottle from his locker. "It's not wine. It's called MonaVie. It's supposed to be good for you."
Mauer then went out and hit a 3-run homer in the 5th inning, so I'm willing to bet you'll find more MonaVie in the Twins clubhouse in the future.
Well, until George Mitchell finds out about it anyway.

Prescription Drugs and OTCs on your health
Millions upon millions of Americans are now on prescription medication. That is, medication, to relieve a particular ailment, that is prescribed by a physician. But what happens when we take prescription medication? What happens to our bodies?
And what about OTCs (over the counter) medications that I would bet every single person in this country has taken at one time or another?
Prescribed medication and/or over the counter meds ALL have side effects that could, in some way affect our bodies. We have all seen the "warnings"...could cause dizziness, upset stomach, sleeplessness, may cause drowsiness, do not take if you have this condition or that condition, and on and on and on.......
So WHY do we take these "drugs"? Usually, because we have an "aligment" or a "conditon" that needs to be fixed!! But are taking these drugs having an effect on the "parts of our body that aren't broke?"
Some perfect examples:
Lipitor RX (used for lowering cholesterol) not only can affect your liver and you have to have your blood taken every three months but also boasts the following "precautions":
Ambien is an RX that is suppose to aid in sleep but has these potential side effects:
Ultram Oral is used to control moderate pain and is similar to narcotic pain medication and works on certain nerves in the brain. Ultram has these potential side effects:
And who can forget Ritalin which is "the drug", it appears, for our children!! Our kids can't concentrate, their hyperactive, etc....is Ritalin really the answer? This medication is a mild stimulant that works by affecting the levels of chemicals (neurotransmitters) in the nervous system.
Some of the potential side effects:
And the list goes on and on and on.......
If you, your family members, friends, etc are taking certain medications, please visit RXList-Internet Drug Index to see what potential side effects these drugs could cause!
*************************
Now, no one is saying "Stop...quit your medication immediately" or anything to that affect! But wouldn't you be healthier and happier if you could feel better without that synthetic drug?
Studies have found that our bodies lack the proper nutrients and antioxidants it needs to fight potential harmful diseases due to improper diet, the air we breathe, our daily habits, etc. Our bodies need 5+ servings of fruits and vegetables to prevent many diseases such as heart disease, cancer, strokes, high blood pressure, diabetes, etc.
Is there a better alternative? Yes, of course there is!! Are you willing to look at the alternatives? I hope so...for your health, your happiness, and your total well being!!!
E-mail me today for information!!!

Headache, diarrhea, stomach/abdominal pain, or joint pain may occur. If any of these effects persist or worsen, notify your doctor or pharmacist promptly. This drug may infrequently cause muscle pain, tenderness, or weakness (which can rarely lead to a very serious condition called rhabdomyolysis). Seek immediate medical attention if you develop these muscle problems (especially with fever or unusual tiredness).
Tell your doctor immediately if any of these highly unlikely but very serious side effects occur: yellowing eyes and skin, dark urine, severe fatigue, severe stomach/abdominal pain, persistent nausea, change in the amount of urine.
Ambien is an RX that is suppose to aid in sleep but has these potential side effects:
Dizziness, lightheadedness, headache, upset stomach, diarrhea, and dry mouth may occur. To minimize the risk of falls, remember to get up slowly when rising from a seated or lying position. If any of these effects persist or worsen, notify your doctor or pharmacist promptly.
This medication may make you sleepy during the day.
Tell your doctor immediately if any of these unlikely but serious side effects occur: fast/pounding heartbeat, unusual tiredness, mental/mood changes (e.g., new or worsening depression, rare thoughts of suicide, hallucinations, aggressive behavior, anxiety), memory loss, unsteadiness...
Ultram Oral is used to control moderate pain and is similar to narcotic pain medication and works on certain nerves in the brain. Ultram has these potential side effects:
Nausea, vomiting, constipation, lightheadedness, dizziness, drowsiness, headache, or weakness may occur.
Tell your doctor immediately if any of these unlikely but serious side effects occur: mental/mood changes, unusual or extreme stiffness in the muscles, shaking (tremor), severe stomach/abdominal pain, change in the amount of urine, vision changes.
Tell your doctor immediately if any of these rare but very serious side effects occur: slow/shallow breathing, seizures, fever/flu-like symptoms.
This drug may make you dizzy or drowsy. Use caution while driving, using machinery, or doing any activity that requires alertness. Avoid alcoholic beverages because they may increase the risk of this drug's side effects.
To reduce dizziness and lightheadedness, get up slowly when rising from a sitting or lying position.

People Getting Healthy
Personal experience is always the best "seller" of any product on the market! For example, if I read an excellent book or see a great movie, I want to tell others about it and share with them why I think the book or movie was so great and they, in turn, will either read that book or watch that movie and then will share it with others! This direct marketing or "word of mouth" marketing is better than any tv commercial ever produced!
So let me share with you a personal experience of what Mona Vie has done for my family......
My daughter-in-law has gotten migraines for many years, however, last August began getting severe headaches everyday which would totally drain her and when getting home from work put her into bed with medication. She was always so tired she was unable to fully enjoy God's blessings of her husand and 2 children due to the extreme pain.
After many doctors visits, and being told she had "Hurried Women's Syndrome" due to stress, which meant more medication, her symptoms began to worsen...she was getting dizzy, having chest pains, and seizures soon followed.
Well, more doctor visits, tests, and medication followed to no avail. The doctors thought she had MS and ordered MORE tests......she didn't have MS. Then they thought maybe she had epilepsy because of her seizures and more tests and then the final "test" before officially stating that it was indeed epilepsy. Right before Christmas this wonderful child was put in the hospital for 5 days, hooked up to monitors, and then was NOT ALLOWED TO SLEEP for those 5 days while they attempted to bring on another seizure and monitor this seizure in their "controlled environment"! Well guess what folks............
She did NOT have another seizure!! So all that was accomplished with the five days was putting a wife, mother and beautiful daughter thru hell and in the end, no one was any closer to knowing what was wrong with her!! She was released from the hospital on December 23, 2006!!
Her mother had a friend that was distributing Mona Vie made with the acai berry and wanted her to try it! "What the heck," she thought, "...nothing else has worked!" and so my daughter-in-law began her Mona Vie regimine of 4 ozs per day!
By the third day, she began to notice she had more engery that she had had in a long time, she was not experiencing headaches as in the past and she felt healthier!! She continued on her regiment and soon realized that she no longer needed her headache and migraine medication and has had no further seizures!!! I have never seen or heard her as happy and full of life as she is now!
God is able to work miracles in our lives and through His grace and glory are we able to experience the wonderful things in life!!
A personal quote from my daughter-in-law:

A personal quote from my daughter-in-law:
" But by the 3rd day after I started drinking Mona Vie, I started feeling better than I had in months. I started exercising again and my headaches totally went away. I haven’t had a headache yet and I even quit drinking Diet Cokes several days a week and I don’t even get a caffeine headache. I didn't have to come home everyday anymore and go straight to the couch or bed. I finally got to be the busy body I am and be a mom and wife again. Through all of this, God helped me realize my priorities and not take my family or anything else for that matter for granted.
I really believe in my heart that God allowed me to go through this hell of being so sick to bring me to this business opportunity and great health. It was a dark time in my life, but I know that God does things like that to us to open doors in other areas. "

THE HEALTH BENEFITS OF THE 19 FRUITS IN MONA VIE JUICE
ACAI BERRY (ahh-sigh-YEE) -This legendary berry from high atop towering palm trees in the Amazon Rain Forest has recently gained fame in the Western World. On the Oprah show in late 2004, the Acai Berry was named by world famous health and beauty doctor Dr. Nicholas Perricone, MD, as one of the Top 10 Superfoods in the world. In his newest bestseller book The Perricone Promise, he calls the Acai the most perfect food on the planet. In a segment aired on NBC's Today Show, the Acai Berry was called The Viagra of the Amazon. They also include a natural salicylate, the major ingredient in aspirin. The nutrients in Apricots are linked to a lower risk of heart disease, stroke, cataracts and some forms of cancer. Soluble fiber is known to steady blood sugar levels and promote regularity. Apricots have been traditionally used for:
• Macular degeneration • Cataracts • Fighting cancer • Preventing strokes
• Heart/vascular health • Prostate health • Preventing strokes • Blood pressure stability
ARONIA (Black Chokeberry) -Aronia juice contains very high levels of anthocyanins and flavonoids, five to ten times higher than cranberry juice. Its beneficial nutrients such as antioxidants, polyphenols, minerals and vitamins are believed to include compounds that specifically fight cancer and cardiac disease. Aronia contains important trace minerals, and it has been used as an anti-diabetic food. Aronia has also been reported to be helpful in fighting inflammations, diabetes and circulatory problems. It has 10x the quinic acid content of cranberries, making it a likely fruit for combating urinary tract infections.
BANANAS - Bananas are a common supermarket fruit and often taken for granted -- few realize the health benefits bananas bring to them. Bananas are the ONLY fruit that comes not from trees or bushes but from large plants that are giant herbs and are related to the lily and orchid family. Bananas are rich in fiber, magnesium and Vitamin B6 and are particularly famous for potassium, an essential electrolyte that helps regulate blood chemistry, especially pH balance. It is believed the serotonin and nor-epinephrine in bananas helps those who suffer from depression. Bananas have been linked to:

Camu Camu has been shown to be highly effective against:
• Viral infections • Common colds • Macular degeneration • Gum problems
CRANBERRIES -Cranberries are rich in many phytonutrients and proanthocyanidins (PAC's)--found to prevent the adhesion of certain bacteria associated with urinary tract infections to the urinary tract wall. These anti-adhesion properties are also thought to inhibit the bacteria associated with gum disease and stomach ulcers. Historically, cranberries have been used for:
• Anorexia • Antibiotic (E Coli, H Pylori) • Blood disorders • Indigestion
• Prostatitis • Gall bladder and liver disorders • Promoting regularity
• Urinary tract health • Supporting gum health • Protecting against prostate and urinary tract cancers • Reducing risk of gum disease, ulcers, heart disease
GRAPES,purple - Purple grapes contain Resveratrol, the potent cancer-fighting antioxidant found in red wine and other grape products and making headlines around the world. Resveratrol helps keep the heart muscle flexible and healthy In addition to resveratrol and saponins, grapes contain yet another compound called pterostilbene (pronounced TARE-oh-STILL-bean), a powerful antioxidant which is already known to fight cancer and may also help lower cholesterol. Grape juice has also been shown to provide benefits in areas of:
• Anti-aging • Anti-bacterial / viral • Anti-inflammatory • Antioxidant

LYCHEE - The Lychee is native to the warmer forests of Southern China and probably Vietnam. It has been cultivated in China for well over a thousand years, and would no doubt have been a keenly sought after forest fruit in subtropical Sino-Vietnamese Asia. At 72mg of vitamin C per 100 grams of flesh, lychees are a very good source for this essential vitamin, as well as potassium and other nutrients. Many studies have shown that consuming Lychee each day may help reduce the chances of cancer and many other diseases.
• Very low sugar content
NASHI PEARS - Nashi Pears (Japanese Pears) Once reserved as a food to be served only to the wealthy and to Chinese nobles, Nashi pears have been grown, cultivated, and eaten for centuries. Little is known about their origin... it's estimated that they began appearing at least 3,000 years ago in China.
Nashi pears are a great source of dietary fiber, and they're also very high in potassium and other essential minerals. They contain nearly 10% of the USRDA for Vitamin C, and a high concentration of folates, which make up the Vitamin B complex group. These vitamins are essential for metabolic activity and red blood cell production.
PASSION FRUIT - Passion fruit is rich in vitamins, minerals and fiber, including: calcium, magnesium, phosphorus, potassium, sodium and sulphur and B Vitamins. The legend of passion fruit dates back to Biblical time, and its modern day uses include promoting sleep, calming anxiety and addressing hyperactivity in children. Rainforest natives have for generations used Passion fruit juice for:
• Asthma, respiratory health • Urinary tract infections • Mild diuretic
• Promoting heart health
PEARS - Pears have been revered throughout time. Their cultivation has been traced back 3000 years in western Asia, and some speculate pears might have been discovered by people in the Stone Age. They were an exotic food item in the court of Louis XIV and were called the "gift of the gods" by Homer in his epic, The Odyssey.
Pears are packed with flavor, fiber, potassium, polyphenols, Vitamin C and copper. Levulose, the sweetest of all known natural sugars is more prevalent in pears than any other fruit. They are nutrient dense, having more nutrients per calorie than calories per nutrient.
Pears have been linked to:
• Antioxidant protection • Anti-inflammatory functions • Maintaining heart health • Fighting infections • Aiding metabolism • Supporting nerve transmission
•Tissue repair • Bowel regularity • Lowering cholesterol • Increasing capillary strength • Healthy blood sugar levels • Protecting vision • Healing wounds and bruises • Protecting cell membranes • Cleansing the colon of harmful chemicals
POMEGRANATE -Pomegranate juice contains more antioxidants than even red wine, green tea, blueberry juice, cranberry juice or orange juice.
It has been shown to be highly effective in clearing plaque from inner arterial walls. Used medicinally for millennia, Pomegranate juice is now being shown by science to be useful for:
• Preventing heart attacks, strokes • Preventing and treating cancer • Combating diabetes • Blood pressure disorders • Preventing blood clotting • Eliminating parasites • Intestinal problems of all types • Cholesterol problems
• Fighting bacterial and fungal infections
PRUNES- Prunes are dried plums, rich in minerals and phenols, plus have an extremely high ORAC value. The drying process actually increases antioxidant powers by more than six times! USDA researchers believe that people of all ages can prevent and treat diseases of aging by simply adding Prunes to their diets.
Prunes are especially appropriate for:
• Boosting bone density • Bowel cleansing, regularity • Cardiovascular disease
• Liver cleansing • Fighting infections • Diverticular disease
• Reducing cholesterol • Preventing memory loss and Alzheimer's • Diabetes
• Reducing risk of estrogen-dependent cancers

What is an Acai Berry?
As reported on the Oprah Winfrey show, Dr. Nicholas Perricone, MD calls the Acai (Ah-Sigh-Ee) berry as the #1 Superfood in the world today. Dr. Perricone states:
************************************
The antioxidants in the acai berry counteract destructive free radicals.
Free radicals are destabilized molecules that can be dangerous in the body because they "steal" electrons from healthy cells. Once healthy cells are damaged they can then create a domino affect by causing a chain reaction of cellular mutation and biological damage. Scientists believe that 1-3% of our daily oxygen intake results in free radical production and although the effects are not felt immediately they do accumulate over time.
Some of the diseases linked to free radicals: Aging, Asthma, Cancer, Diabetes, Heart Disease, High Cholesterol, Respiratory Dysfunction, Neurological Disorders, Headaches, Rheumatoid Arthritis, Immune Dysfunction....among others.
The acai berry has been known to increase energy levels, relieve stress, improve sexual health, lower blood pressure, reduce LDL cholesterol levels, relieve headaches and migraines, reduce inflammation, improve sleep, protect blook vessels, aid in weight control, improves skin, and, in general, promotes overall wellness!!
....studies have shown that this little berry is one of the most nutritious and powerful foods in the world! Açaí (ah-sigh-ee) is the high-energy berry of a special Amazon palm tree. Harvested in the rainforests of Brazil, açaí tastes like a vibrant blend of berries and chocolate. Hidden within its royal purple pigment is the magic that makes it nature's perfect energy fruit. Açaí is packed full of antioxidants, amino acids and essential fatty acids. Although açaí may not be available in your local supermarket, .....A new product featuring the unsweetened pulp is now also available, and I highly recommend that you choose this form of açaí.
Açaí pulp contains:
1. A remarkable concentration of antioxidants that help combat premature aging, with 10 times more antioxidants than red grapes and 10 to 30 times the anthocyanins of red wine.
2. A synergy of monounsaturated (healthy) fats, dietary fiber and phytosterols to help promote cardiovascular and digestive health.
3. An almost perfect essential amino acid complex in conjunction with valuable trace minerals, vital to proper muscle contraction and regeneration.
